Tour Plan

Day 01 :
Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Aït Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley

Departure from Marrakech early in the morning. The road ascends steadily into the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka, the highest paved pass in Morocco. Along the way, traditional Berber villages appear scattered across the mountainsides, revealing a rural life shaped by altitude and time.

Midday arrival at Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified village built entirely of earth and straw. This UNESCO World Heritage site stands as one of the finest examples of southern Moroccan architecture. A guided walk through the ksar offers insight into ancient caravan routes, desert trade, and the region’s cinematic legacy.

Continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the Sahara and a historical crossroads between desert and mountains. The journey then follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, where palm groves and ruined fortresses line the valley floor.

Arrival in the Dades Valley by late afternoon. The landscape narrows into dramatic red-rock formations carved by the river over centuries. Dinner and overnight stay in a local hotel or riad.

Day 02 :
Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Merzouga → Erg Chebbi Dunes

After breakfast, travel toward Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sites. Sheer limestone cliffs rise vertically on both sides of a narrow canyon, creating a striking contrast between rock, light, and water. Time is allowed to walk through the gorge and appreciate its scale and stillness.

The route continues east through desert towns and fossil-rich areas near Erfoud, where the landscape becomes increasingly arid and open. Gradually, the first golden dunes appear on the horizon, signaling arrival at Merzouga.

In the late afternoon, begin a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The ride moves slowly across rolling sand as the sun lowers, changing the color of the desert from gold to deep orange.

Arrival at the desert camp at dusk. Dinner is served under the open sky, followed by traditional Berber music. Overnight in a Sahara camp surrounded by silence and stars.

Day 03 :
Merzouga → Sahara Sunrise → Return Journey

Wake before sunrise to witness the desert awakening. From the top of a nearby dune, watch the light spread across the Sahara, revealing the vastness and quiet power of the landscape.

After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga village by camel or 4x4 vehicle. The journey then continues back toward Marrakech or onward to another destination, depending on travel plans.

The desert gradually fades behind you, but its sense of scale and stillness remains long after the journey ends.

This was not our first time going to here. It is a great place to shop not too far from Europe. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
